President's Message

“One Green World” is the theme for the Pacific Region Director.

​

After attending the Pacific Region Convention, I did a little research on “One Green World” and eventually this phrase showed up, “Every Day Should be Earth Day.” What a great phrase! I believe as garden club members we have a responsibility to make every day Earth Day. And that phrase will be the theme for the next two years.

​

If you read the mission statements of our club, state, region and national they all have one subject in common – environmental responsibility.

​

At the club level this year we will be presenting programs on pesticides, native plants, drought tolerant plants; our designs of the month will be showing you how to use late fall flowers from your garden, native plants in home bouquets, and dried flowers to make arrangements; and our hands-on crafts include Mason bee mugs, painting plant stakes and floral arrangements using recycled tin cans.

To be more environmentally responsible we need to change the way we live - eat less meat, use reusable water bottles, walk or bike more, replace incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, use less water, opt out of junk mail, plant more trees/vegetable gardens/flower gardens, use less (or no pesticides), use less plastics, and the list could go on.
